Why Do We Do It..?
The White Christmas Dip was started as a fun and simple way to support the Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital by donating sponsorship money to Macmillan Caring Locally.
Macmillan Caring Locally is a small charity established in 1974 to build the Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital, and to support it in partnership with the NHS. Although we share the Macmillan name we are not connected to the national charity Macmillan Cancer Support. Donations we receive are used to fund the specialist care of our patients at the Macmillan Unit, and those who are under our care living at home in our community.
The funds raised at the White Christmas Dip have enabled us to buy essential equipment for the Macmillan Unit and to provide an attractive, homely environment for our patients, their families and visitors. We are so grateful to Tommy, John, Richard, their families and friends who started this great event in 2008. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone who has given up their Christmas morning to do something completely mad, and raise funds for our charity at the same time.
In the last ten years referrals to the Macmillan Unit have tripled, and we have now outgrown our existing facility. We have been setting aside funds to build a new Macmillan Unit for many years and in 2017 we took the decision to launch an appeal to raise the remaining funds to enable us to build this new Unit at Christchurch Hospital. By joining us on Christmas Day you could help us make this a reality.
If you haven’t done a Christmas morning dip before and are thinking about it, please join us and bring your friends. It is great fun, there is an amazing atmosphere and it really sets you up for your Christmas lunch. Many families and groups of friends have made it their annual tradition. Why not do the same and #ThemeYourTeam?
See you on Christmas morning!
